About Greenway Guardians
Our Story
Greenway Guardians is a public Facebook group founded by Clif Edwards whose mission is to persuade Duke Energy not to compromise the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway between SR-484 and I-75 in Marion County and instead to use an existing utility/transportation corridor.
Marjorie Harris Carr
In 1991 the purpose of the Cross Florida Barge Canal was changed and it was named the Cross Florida State Recreation and Conservation Area. In 1998 it was renamed the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway in honor of the woman who led the fight to stop the canal.
